The July Uprising was a beacon of hope for the people of Bangladesh, promising a transformation towards a more democratic and people-centric state. However, recent events suggest that the movement is facing internal conflicts that threaten to undermine its very foundation. Instead of working together to fulfill the aspirations of the people, the allies of the uprising seem to be entangled in disputes that could lead to further national instability.

One of the most concerning issues is the rift between the activists of Shibir and Chhatra Shakti. The disagreement has surfaced particularly over the transparency of financial transactions within the National Citizens Committee (NCC) and concerns regarding the lack of democratic practices within its leadership. Many activists linked to Shibir have questioned the committee’s integrity, especially with allegations that some leaders have accepted bribes in exchange for securing government jobs. This has deepened the divide, leading to the refusal of Shibir-linked activists to join the National Citizens Party (NCP) and the announcement of a separate political platform. However, the ideological stance of this new faction remains unclear, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the future of the movement.

These divisions are detrimental to the spirit of the July Uprising. The movement was meant to unite the people against systemic flaws and corruption, yet its own leaders now face allegations of misconduct. If these issues are not resolved swiftly, public trust will erode further, leaving the people disillusioned with the promises of change. The ongoing struggle among allies has already caused frustration among citizens who had high expectations from the movement. Their hopes of a fair and just system are being dashed by political infighting.

Moreover, the interim government, which was expected to implement reforms based on the recommendations of various commissions, has largely failed to bring about any substantial change. While reports have been submitted, there is little progress in making the state mechanism more accountable and people-friendly. The government’s inability to uphold the revolutionary spirit of the uprising is adding to the public’s disappointment. Instead of ushering in a new era of transparency and good governance, it seems to be entangled in the same inefficiencies that plagued previous administrations.

If the leaders of the July Uprising truly care about the people, they must set aside their differences and prioritize the greater cause. Transparency, accountability, and inclusivity must be the pillars of the movement. Internal disputes must be resolved through open dialogue, ensuring that the movement does not collapse under the weight of division. Furthermore, the allegations against NCC leaders must be investigated thoroughly to restore credibility and prevent further erosion of public trust.

The people of Bangladesh deserve a leadership that stays true to the principles of the uprising—one that is committed to genuine reform, not personal gain or factional disputes. The movement’s leaders must remember that history will judge them not by their words but by their actions. If they fail to unite and work towards the common good, the July Uprising may become just another chapter in the country’s long history of unfulfilled promises. Now is the time for decisive leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the people.
